Stan Hywet Decks the Hall for the Holidays

Fri 11/26-Sun 11/28, Thu 12/2, Thu 12/9-Thu 12/23, Sun 12/26-Thu 12/30

The sprawling Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens was created more than a century ago as an estate for the wealthy co-founder of Goodyear Tire and Rubber, F.A. Seiberling. It’s been a historic landmark and public museum since the mid 20th century.

There’s no better place to evoke the traditional Christmases of the past — at least those enjoyed by people with money. And Stan Hywet’s “Deck the Hall: Lights, Cameras, Christmas!” lets everyone imagine themselves into that scenario.

Visitors will first encounter a giant, lighted, decorated tree in the Carriage House Courtyard, and visit with Santa and Rudolf the Red-Nosed Reindeer (who didn’t exist when the home was built; the story came out in 1939) at Rudolf’s Corral.

Inside the Manor House, they’ll encounter 21 rooms and spaces fashioned by local decorators and artists to evoke classic holiday movies, with 25 beautiful trees. The Reception Hall will be transformed into a movie theater lobby, with ticket stubs, popcorn and candy; a red-carpet walk follows. And of course there’s a Nutcracker tribute, with costumes from the Cleveland Ballet in the Music Room.

More than one million lights will set the grounds ablaze with holiday spirit, with a new DAZZLE light show in the great Garden, a lit-up Gingerbread Land, and a poinsettia tree in the Corbin Conservatory (Poinsettias are also available for purchase). And two animated shop windows will evoke the quaint shops of the past. There’ll be real shops too : Molly’s Shop will be filled with holiday gifts and the Gingerbread Hut and the Salty Reindeer will have refreshments available for purchase.
