Local Group Promotes Brazilian Capoiera in Weekend Event

Fri 11/19-Sun 11/21

Despite a plethora of local performances, most locals probably aren’t aware of Grupo Unidade Capoiera, which has been promoting the Brazilian art form capoiera that incorporates dance, music and martial arts, as well as Afro-Brazilian culture in general, for more than 20 years. It’s done performances and demonstrations at places such as Karama, Beck Center, SPACES Cleveland Pubic Theatre, area universities and the Ingenuity Festival.

This weekend is a great opportunity to learn more, whether you want to learn and participate in the culture or simply admire its practitioners.  Dia de Liberacao takes place at the Midtown Tech Hive Friday, November 19 through Sunday November 21. There’ll be guest artists leading workshops in different aspects of capoiera movement and music for both kids and adults. You can also come watch; there’s no charge to either watch or take part, although donations are encouraged and very welcome!
