Playwrights Local Presents a New Work by a Local Playwriting MFA Student

Thu 11/19 @ 7PM

Playwrights Local, the group founded to encourage new work and new playwrights mostly from Cleveland and the surrounding areas, has been really busy this fall, presenting a wagon full of new works in virtual readings in its roundtable series.

This week the play is The Mirror Effect, written by Romanian-born writer Oana Leuca, who is currently working on her MFA in playwriting through NEOMFA, and with a cast of seven directed by Christine McBurney.

The play’s synopsis says it “presents Amanda Reis, a self-searching female writer who explores her inner life through language and disguise. Her story is inspired by the lives and work of other female artists (Sylvia Plath, Virginia Woolf, Anne Sexton, Marylin Monroe, etc.). Her poetic monologue is an astronaut’s shout in space, a place where sound waves can’t travel. She is a clown afraid of clowns, an actress trying to free herself from her persona.”
