It’s easy to forget those who live in the shadows, especially in this cruel time when those who are not as privileged and affluent, who are “foreign” or mentally ill or speak or look different, are being demonized.
But NEOCH — the Northeast Ohio Coalition for the Homeless — has a mission to remember these people, a mission they’ve been pursuing doggedly for more than 30 years. And on the longest night of the year and first day of winter (as well as Ohio Homeless Memorial Day), they hold a candlelight vigil and memorial service to remember members of the homeless community who have died in the preceding year. State senator Nickie J. Antonio will be offering a short tribute to those who have died.
Community activists, homeless service providers, and members of the homeless community will gather at the West Side Catholic Center — and all good-hearted people who care about “the least of our brothers and sisters” are welcome to join and bring names of those they know they know of people who have been homeless at any point who have died in the last year.
