Classical Guitar Society Showcase Opens Season @ Maltz PAC

Sat 9/14 @ 7:30PM

The Cleveland Classical Guitar Society likes to open its season with a concert that might be regarded as an intro to the art form they represent or statement of purpose.

Their showcase concert, taking place at the Maltz Performing Arts Center on the Case Western Reserve campus, features some of the best locally based classical guitarists, offering a free taste of music for their instrument.

The performers will most likely be familiar to classical music audiences: Jason Vieaux is the head of the classic guitar department at the Cleveland Institute of Music and Colin Davin is his former student as co-head of the department. Both men have national reputations, having released albums and performed nationally and internationally. The Gruca White Ensemble features Robert Gruca on guitar and Linda White on flute, and is the ensemble-in-residence at The Music Settlement.

Davin will perform music by J.S. Bach, Radames Gnattali and Antonio Lauro; Vieaux will play Dominica Scarlatti’s Sonata K. 208 and Mauro Giuliani’s Variations on a Theme by Handel. The Gruca White Ensemble will offer three pieces by contemporary composers.

Although the event is free, tickets are required. Go here to reserve them.
