You know it’s really summer when northeast Ohio’s vintage little resort town, Geneva-on-the-Lake, is open for the season.
The town has been through many phases, from a peaceful family beach vacation getaway in the late 1800s to amusement-packed strip in the mid ’50s to a notorious biker hangout in the ’60s and ’70s. Today most of that comes together in one small package. There are plenty of small lakefront inns, along with biker bars (and a big biker event at the close of the season). The rides are gone but you can still play miniature golf and arcade games, gorge on junk food and shop for souvenirs and summer clothing.
Geneva-on-the-Lake celebrates the advent of the 2018 season with its summer kickoff parade at 1pm, along with Mother’s Day events, including games, crafts and cookie decorating, from 10am-5pm. Slap on some sunscreen and come on out! You don’t even have to take a ferry to get there.
