Classically trained Canadian jazz vocalist/pianist/songwriter Laila Biali has already amassed an impressive resume, which features tours with Paula Cole, Chris Botti and Suzanne Vega and recording with Sting. She’s also won several Canadian National Jazz Awards, and performing in Europe, Asia and South America. But until now, she hasn’t played in Cleveland.
That changes this week when she makes her Cleveland debut at Nighttown, where she’ll showcase her latest self-titled CD (her seventh recording). It features mostly her original material, along with a handful of covers (David Bowie’s “Let’s Dance,” Randy Newman’s “I Think It’s Gonna Rain Today,” Coldplay’s “Yellow”) that show off her musical range. And she co-produced the album, along with her husband, drummer Ben Wittman.
Tickets are $20.
