Clevelander Kristine Jackson first started catching people’s ears locally more than a decade and a half ago when she turned up with her trumpet to sit in with local jazz and blues groups. She snagged a degree in trumpet performance at the University of Akron, but looking for a more direct outlet to convey her feelings through music, she began to sing, write songs and play guitar.
She released her first album Candy Store in 2010, followed by KJ Blues Vol 1 in 2013 and Simply KJ Vol 2 in 2014. This year, she came through with By Your Side. It displays her growth as a performer who still has roots in the blues, reflected in the emotive depths and sincerity of her vocal performances, but whose range gets broader all the time.
