Lake Erie isn’t northeast Ohio’s only water-based recreational resource. There are many others, including the Shaker Lakes. That’s why the Doan Brook Watershed Partnership hosts its annual Take It to the Lake afternoon of outdoor recreation, now in its fifth year.
Taking place at the Lower Shaker Lake, the event includes kayaking and canoeing, hiking, birding, yoga and music. Since the Shaker Lakes are normally off-limits to boaters, this is a rare opportunity to rent a kayak ($10) or bring your own and enjoy the beautiful of this designated “Audubon Important Bird Area.” For $5 you can take an hour-long kayaking class. Registration is required for kayaking, even if you bring your own.
Even if you don’t want to go out on the water, there’ll be plenty to do. There’ll be a community yoga class at 2pm ($5 to participate); a Pokemon Adventure Hike at 1pm ($5 per group) and a Doan Brook Geocaching Hike with handheld GPS units provided at 3pm ($5 per group) There’ll also be live bluegrass and a kids’ boat-building crafts class all afternoon. Register here for the various activities.
