Catch Shows Closing or in Mid-Run at This Month’s 78th Street Studios Third Friday

78th street

Fri 8/19 @ 5-9PM

August is pretty much the summer doldrums for art galleries, although the 78th Street Studios are hopping every Third Friday. But this month, you’ll mostly see shows in mid-run, which is a good thing in this arts-intensive town.

If you didn’t make it in July, you can still see shows such as graphic artist Gary Dumm’s Black & White & Read All Over, featuring works he’s done for graphic sorry writers like Harvey Pekar and the eye-catching paintings of George Kocar, both at Gallery +, or Face Value, at HEDGE Gallery, in which artists Sarah Curry, Douglas Max Utter, Brian Mouhlas and John W. Carlson explore the stories behind people’s faces. Lucky Charms at the E11even2 Gallery has its closing night, and Locus of Transition, featuring work by Laila Voss and Jason Milburn, continues at ARTneo through Fri 9/2.

There’s always much more going on — pop-up music around the corner, new items in one of the shops or galleries or just running into old friends in the halls. And although it technically runs from 5-9pm, some of the galleries are open in the afternoons (check the 78th Street Studios website), and some have a late-night crowd and stay open later. And you can always count on the Touch food truck being parked in back by the main entrance!
