Cleveland musician Danny Sheridan, who died in Los Angeles in May at the age of 65, first became known in the local music scene for playing country/bluegrass-influenced music for rock audiences with Eli Radish from 1968-1973, an era when eclecticism reigned in the rock scene. The band released one oddity of an album on Capitol Records in 1969 called I Didn’t Raise My Son to Be a Soldier. The compendium of military songs from the Civil War through Vietnam was intended to be a back-handed anti-war statement.

After Eli Radish fizzled out, Sheridan moved to Los Angeles where he became the driving force behind the careers of a couple of high-profile girlfriends: original MTV VJ Nina Blackwood (also a former Clevelander) and Bonnie Bramlett, with whom he formed the Bandaloo Doctors. In the several years, he was collaborating with his fiancée, singer/songwriter Angelle Sheridan, although that partnership had not yet born recorded fruit by the time he died of kidney failure in L.A.

Angelle has now planned a rocker’s funeral for Sheridan, to take place at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum. It starts at 7pm with a eulogy by Angelle, with others invited to speak. Old photos will be most welcome!

That will be followed at 8pm by a Viking funeral ritual in which a miniature Viking ship containing a handful of Danny’s ashes and notes from family and friends will be set on fire and launched out to sea, that is, Lake Erie. Anyone who wants to contribute something should contact RevAngelle@roadrunner.com.

Following the service and ritual, everyone is invited to Cebar’s Euclid Tavern on E. 185th for socializing and refreshments. They’ll be hosting the Danny Sheridan Memorial Open Mic Night so musicians, bring your instruments. All are welcome whether you knew Danny or not.
