Wed 9/16 @ noon-8PM
The 12th annual Slovenian Sausage Festival, sponsored by the National Cleveland-Style Polka Hal of Fame, should be quite an afternoon. Sausage makers will be offering guests samples of their finest product so they can vote on who will be the King of Klobasa, winner to be announced at 7pm. And this title comes with something much more significant than a sash and a crown: the winner gets to provide sausage at the annual three-day Thanksgiving Polka Weekend at the downtown Marriott.
But you don’t have to be a meat-eater or even Slovenian to enjoy this festival. There’ll be plenty of other food as well. And everyone is invited to hit the dance floor as twelve polka bands provide eight straight hours of music. It’s not hard to learn to dance the polka and there should be plenty of friendly folks in hand willing to teach a novice. More than 50 musicians will be performing during sets by groups like the Chardon Polka Band, the Fairport Jammers, the Magic City Button Box Club, the Anthony Culkar Combo, Kathy Hlad and Ron Likovic, the Button Box Divas, Linda Hochevar and Frank Moravcik, the Polka Hall of Fame All-Stars, and the Frank Stanger Orchestra. There’ll be a jam session too so bring your own accordion if you’d like to play.
If you’d like a CD of one of the area’s great polka bands, past or present, or a souvenir T-shirt to take home, never fear. The Polka Hall of Fame will be setting up a pop-up shop on site at the SNPJ Farm in Kirkland.
Tickets are $10 and can be ordered from the Polka Hall of Fame.
