Join the Artist Archives of the Western Reserve for a lecture by Yael Raviv, director of Umami food and art festival. He’ll discuss the intersection of food and art and how his fest creates new ideas about both these mediums in our society. Q&A to follow.
“Umami food and art festival was founded in NY in 2008 bringing together artists who use food as a medium with food professionals. In the years since our inaugural festival the notion of combining food and art became more commonplace and familiar, but we find new surprises and inspiration in every project, and feel there is still room for breaking new ground in exploring food as a creative medium in both professional and home settings. This talk will focus on Umami festival’s various past projects, with examples from many of our participating artists. We’ll discuss the idea of food as a medium for artists, chefs, and growers/manufacturers as well as home cooks. Finally we’ll explore the idea of food as a vehicle for encouraging art that is grounded in everyday life and materials.” – Yael Raviv
