Any night with Akron’s Shivering Timbers is bound to be a good one. The trio, which features bassist/vocalist Sarah Benn, her guitarist/vocalist husband Jayson Benn, and drummer Daniel Kshywonis, has been described as “folk rock,” which barely scratches the surface and doesn’t convey thy excitement they produce onstage.
With the focus on the tall, striking Sarah, who easily handles her big upright bass while powering the band with her warm, fluid vocals, the band covers a lot of musical territory from rockabilly to country to blues to folk to pop to jazz. Their memorable songs run the gamut of moods too from pensive to spirited to romantic to humorous. Hopefully they’ll be following up their 2012 album Sing Sing soon.
They’ll be playing at the G.A.R. Hall in Peninsula, where they’ll be joined Lexington, Kentucky roots/folk artist Warren Byrom and his band Fabled Canelands.
