Cleveland ’60s Rockers Tree Stumps Reunite at Stamper’s

Sat 7/6 @ 8PM

It seems like eventually, the members of every Cleveland band that played together for more than a minute say to each other, “Wouldn’t it be fun to get the band and fans together again for a night and pretend we’re all still young and carefree?”

You bet it would. That’s why we’ve seen so many such shows in local bars.

The latest one pulls up a name from the distant recesses of Cleveland music history.

In the mid ’60s, the Tree Stumps, like most of the new area rock bands, was made up of teenagers whose rock star dreams were fueled by the British invasion.

Like most bands of that era, they existed only briefly by modern standards and underwent a series of personnel changes, subject to the fast-changing lives and whims of teens. They blazed brightly and burned out, enjoying a couple of years of heady local popularity and leaving behind only one released recording, a 45 “Listen to Love/Jennie Lee.”

Various members went on to other projects like Silk, Audi-Badoo, Granicus, and the Michael Stanley Band.

The reunion show at Stampers Grill Pub won’t be bringing together ALL the old members – that would be a chore. But it will include a significant portion of them, including founding members Mike Hay, Russ & Ron Jankowski, as well as later additions — vocalist Terry Kellerman, bassist Al Howarth, Granicus vocalist Woody Leffel, and Michael Stanley.

It’s free.
