Listen in as Cool Cleveland correspondent Carol Drummond interviews Russian born and NEO resident stone carver Alice Kiderman as she discusses her exhibit at the Canton Museum of Art entitled Human Journey in Stone. Ms. Kiderman talks about and even shows some of her work that explores the universally human experiences of gender and emotions through her medium of choice – stone. In this exhibit amorphous, light-colored stone shapes dance alongside dark geometric figures as primitive stone masks look on from the walls.
Ms. Kiderman’s thoughtful arrangement is joined by an exceptional display of exquisitely carved wooden figures and abstractions by James Mellick called Allegory in Wood. His depictions of man’s best friend are sumptuous studies of human character through canine variety, action and exaggeration. Another exhibit on display now is called Cutting Edge: Evolution of the Knife, in which astounding detail and craftsmanship in the art of knife making can be seen. The permanent collection also on display, called Ohio’s Fertile Valley, includes works of past and current Northeast Ohio artist who have made a difference in the art world. You will recognize some familiar names and learn to love some new ones.
Take your own short journey down I-77 to Canton Museum of Art to see Alice Kiderman’s Human Journey in Stone now through October 28, 2012 at Canton Museum of Art.
