The Greater Cleveland Aquarium Makes a Splash in the Flats

How do you revitalize the Flats, bring families back downtown, spur economic development in a tired neighborhood and draw tourism back into the region? … Just add water!

The long-awaited grand opening of the Greater Cleveland Aquarium has finally arrived with admission for the general public starting January 21, 2012.

The last time the Power House had water in its basement it meant trouble, now it means money, jobs, revitalization, family fun, education and a whole lot more.

Watch as Cool Cleveland senior correspondent Carol Drummond interviews Tami Brown, general manager of the Greater Cleveland Aquarium, as she describes what the grand opening of the Greater Cleveland Aquarium means for Northeast Ohio, the City of Cleveland and the Flats neighborhood. Ms. Borwn also explains what makes FirstEnergy Powerhouse a unique venue for an aquarium and what visitors can expect to discover during their visit the Greater Cleveland Aquarium. The highlights include exhibits featuring local water waterways and marine life as well as tropical water exhibits and coral reefs, two touch pools where coastal environments can be explored, and the grand finally – a huge tank that houses sharks, rays and a sunken ship. Visitors wind right through this last exhibit in an acrylic tube while the animals swim by right overhead.
