PREVIEW: Soprano via Chile, via Cuba Performs Recital @ CSU
Soprano Gabriela Martinez performs recital @ CSU Sat 5/7 at 7:30 p.m.
An international talent, soprano Gabriela Martinez began her vocal studies in Havana, Cuba, studied, performed and taught in Santiago, Chile, and now she’s giving a recital at Cleveland State University, in completion of her graduate studies. She is a budding talent, not to be missed! A free, public performance, the recital makes a great date or evening out with friends.
Martinez will offer her recital Sat 5/7 at 7:30 p.m. @ CSU’s Drinko Recital Hall. Drinko Recital Hall is located in the Music and Communication Building on the Northwest corner of E. 21st and Euclid Ave. Parking is available in the adjacent parking lot off of E21st street between Chester and Euclid.

The recital features works by Handel, Bach, Mozart, Strauss, Poulenc, Chausson, Fauré, Giannini, Ned Rorem and Ruperto Chapí. Gabriela Martinez will be joined by her husband, pianist Javier Gonzalez and by Zachary Randolph on Oboe. Gabriela Martinez’s musical career is an international one. She has performed solo roles in La Traviata and Madame Butterfly at the Municipal Theatre of Temuco, Chile, but her performance credits only begin to describe her career prior to moving to Cleveland. Martinez began musical studies at the Alejandro García Caturla music conservatory in Havana, Cuba. She completed high school music program at the National School of Music in Havana. In Santiago, Chile, she obtained a Bachelor degree in Choral Direction and Vocal Performance at the University of Chile. In Santiago, she conducted several choirs including the adult choir of the Catholic University of Chile, and the Choir of the supreme court of Santiago. She also worked as a choir supervisor and voice teacher in the children’s program of the Municipal Theatre of Santiago. From 2004-2008 she was the director of the Adult Choir and Youth Choir of the Municipal Theatre of Temuco, Chile. She also directed other choirs in Temuco including Universidad Mayor Chorus and the Children’s Choir of the German School. She is currently pursuing graduate studies in vocal performance at the Cleveland State University, under the tutelage of Professor Elizabeth Unis Chesko.
