Sun 7/21-Sat 7/27
With the Cleveland International Piano Competition (CIPC) coming up on its 50th year this summer, its parent organization Piano Cleveland is amping up the promotion to raise awareness in the community by sending music into the community.
So it’s working with the Concert Truck to host eight free concerts at different public locations around town from July 21-July 27. The 16-foot box truck converts into a mobile concert stage, with lights, sound and a piano to showcase performances by some of this year’s contestants and introduce them to Clevelanders. Some music fans will seek out the performances, while others will stumble across them and have a pleasant surprise.
“With this year’s competition, we want to prepare our contestants for life as a performer,” says Piano Cleveland president and 2007 CIPC medalist Yaron Kohlberg. “A large part of being a performer is knowing how to play to the audience. The Concert Truck is a lot of fun, but it’s also an important lesson for these artists.”
