Author Talks About His Book on the History of Cleveland Soul Music

Thu 11/2 @ 7PM

It seems like we’ve been hearing about local author Carlo Wolff’s book on Cleveland’s obscure 60s and 70s soul scene for years. It turns out we have! The recently published book, Invisible Soul: Uncovering Cleveland’s Underground Soul Scene, written with James O’Hare and illustrated by Ron Hill, took 12 years to bring to fruition.

The book covers such aspects of the music as the vibrant scene that once flourished around East 105th and Euclid Avenue and the Boddie Recording Company, which captured the sounds of everyone who was anyone in the Black music scene from sweet soul to grinding funk to pop to gospel. Read our article about the book here.

Wolff will be at Macs Backs in Cleveland Heights’ Coventry Village to talk about the book. The event is free.

Listen to CoolCleveland’s Thomas Mulready talk with legendary Cleveland DJ Billy Bass about his thoughts on Carlo Wolff’s book, Invisible Soul here.
