Sun 9/25 @ 2:15PM
It’s that time of year to celebrate the harvesting of the grapes, with the huge Grape JAMboree in Geneva this weekend. But there’s also the polka-driven Slovenian Grape Festival taking place at the SNPJ Farm in Kirtland.
It starts at 2:45pm with a polka harvest parade led by accordion player Tony Fortuna. Anyone with a voice or accordion is welcome to join in, preferably in Slovenian folk garb; participants must arrive by 2:15. Grab a song sheet for the sing-along with the Polka Hall of Fame’s Joe Valencic. And then get ready to do some serious dancing to the Joey Tomsick Orchestra from 3-7pm in the pavilion decorated with grapevines and hanging treats. Food such as Slovenian sausages, roast beef and homemade donuts will be available from 2pm on.
Admission is free if you wear a Slovenian costume or bring an accordion of if you’re 18 and under. Regular admission is $8 which includes bocce!
