It’s been shown that chess is a great mind builder, teaching players how to think, plans and strategize. Some say it’s even linked to increased intelligence!
In any case, it can’t hurt to teach kids chess because it keeps them absorbed in something where they’re using their brains. That’s the concept behind the program Invest in Chess.
The Cleveland Metropolitan School District is collaborating with Invest in Chess to present the Holiday Chess Tournament at the downtown Cleveland library, third floor. It’s free to play, open to all, and trophies will be given to the top finishers. There’ll also be snacks and refreshments.
