Those of us who don’t eat fish can only shake our heads in amazement at Cleveland’s obsession with Lenten Friday fish fries, a vestige of how dominant Catholicism once was in this town. And the theme of this month’s Walkabout Tremont is the Art of the Fish Fry. That means you can likely expect the neighborhood’s abundance of eateries to be featuring fish specials.
But there’s also the “art” part and yes, there’s still some art in this once heavily art-oriented neighborhood. While many of the galleries have fallen to gentrification, there’s always something going on at mainstay Doubting Thomas. And Kaiser Gallery, just four years old, has become a popular gathering spot for art exhibits and special events, with its resident cocktail lounge and its eclectic, cutting-edge art displays. This month it’ll be opening a show called Thin Line: Love/Hate Relationship with AI, put together by another neighborhood mainstay, artist/gallerist/curator Patsy Coffey Kline. It’s comprised of works by Kline herself, as well as Gina Washington and Jason Toth, which looks at the opportunities and challenges for artists in generative AI. That show will be on view through May 5.
