Fri 10/14 @ 9PM
Since forming back in 2008, Cleveland-based raucous yet tuneful quartet Signals Midwest, led by vocalist/guitarist Max Stern, have accomplished quite a lot and seem to be looking at quite a bit more with their release of their fourth album, At This Age, their third for the Carolina-based Tiny Engines label.
Stern and his bandmates — guitarist Jeff Russell, bassist Loren Shumaker and drummer Steve Gibson — follow up 2013’s Light on the Lake and 2011’s Latitudes and Longitudes with a set of ten shapely, well-focused tunes that make smooth transitions between their achingly reflective moments and full-throated, punchy musical attacks.
The band recently returned from a swing through the Great Lakes area and the east coast, with dates in Chicago, Brooklyn, D.C., Philadelphia, Richmond, Charlotte, Toronto, Montreal, Quebec and more. It takes a short breather and then swoops into the Grog Shop to introduce the new material to local fans. For that show, they’re promising to play the new album in its entirety along with some older material and special surprises.
The Gunshy and Two Hand Fools open. Tickets are $6 in advance, $8 at the door.
