Washington University professor Michael Kinch is the director of the Center for Drug Discovery there, which identifies and funds promising drug research projects. He published his book Between Hope and Fear: A History of Vaccines and Human Immunity in 2018. But it certainly speaks to this moment.
The book looks at the history of vaccine development and how they’ve worked to conquer vaccine-preventable diseases. He also explores how their history has intersected with social and political agendas, including vaccine denial, that threaten to undo their public health impact.
Kinch will be doing a streaming author event through the Hudson Library & Historical Society. It’s free but you must register here.
Copies of Kinch’s book are available through Hudson’s Learned Owl Book Shop.
