Pretty much everything shown at 78th Street Studios’ E11even 2 Gallery is inspired by pop or street art in one way or another. It’s filled with relatable and affordable art for those who might feel intimidated by high-end galleries.
Its rotating exhibits are often based on a pop-culture theme and the next one up is called Curb Appeal. It draws on the work of street artists, urban landscape photography and other work found in city landscapes, utilizing images from found objects such as metal signs and cardboard packaging.
Gallery co-owner, artist, R!ch Cihlar, bringing in his like-minded friend from Detroit, Jerry Shirts, from Detroit, of whom he says, “Jerry and I have always been on the same wavelength when it comes to our styles. We met over a decade ago and have stayed in touch ever since inspiring each other with new techniques. We both cut stencils and paint on found objects. After a visit from Jerry last year, we came to the conclusion it was time to put a show together. And this is that show!”
Joining Cihlar and Shirts to contribute work to the show are the gallery’s other two co-owners Christina Sadowski and Billy Nainiger. It opens during July Third Friday, July 21, from 5-9pm. Closing reception takes place during August Third Friday August 18, also at 5-9pm. It’s free and open to all.
