Those who know the Akron Symphony Orchestra, which performs a full season of concerts at E.J. Thomas Hall, might be surprised to learn there’s another orchestra in Akron and it’s been around nearly 100 years. The Akron Pops Orchestra was founded in 1926 and plays both classical and pop tunes at various venues in Summit County.
For its Silent Movie Family Concert, taking place at the Akron Civic Theatre, it will play music connected with a variety of hit films, as well as music from silent films, culminating with music from your family’s favorite blockbuster films, concluding with the orchestra playing period-appropriate music to a screening of the 1921 Buster Keaton comedy The Haunted House. They promise a program of “dinosaurs, wizards, space travel, thrills, chills, and comedy.”
