Program Presents FutureLAND, Another Proposal to Make Cleveland Tech & Startup-Friendly

Wed 3/1 @ 7:30PM

In the last 20 or so years, there have been numerous ideas that were going to transform Cleveland and turn it into a hub of this or that — anyone remember “Blockland,” when Cleveland was going to become a hub for blockchain technology, the basis of cryptocurrency? We’ve had countless conferences and brainstorming sessions replete with “appreciative inquiry.” We talked Richard Florida’s “creative class” theories to death in the early ’00s.

Now here comes another: FutureLAND “It’s not a moment, it’s a movement,” they tell us. It’s a conference that aims to turn Cleveland into a tech hub, a magnet for startup businesses and entrepreneurs, hoping to direct more resources into their hands, especially those in communities of color. FutureLAND, they tell us, “is not just a conference, but a movement driven by entrepreneurs, for entrepreneurs. They aim to make Cleveland a leading destination for founders of color looking to build their startups in an environment where they can thrive.”

If you’d like to assess this latest proposal to jumpstart Cleveland (unsurprisingly, “Jumpstart” is the name of another organization with a similar goal), head to the Happy Dog to hear FutureLAND’s creative director Charron Leeper talk all about it at Happy Dog Takes on FutureLAND, in conjunction with the City Club. It’s free and you can drink beer and order food while you’re taking in the program.

Register to attend here. The program will also be livestreamed on the City Club’s website starting at 7:30pm.
