Local Art Collector Shares Look at His Collection & How He Assembled It

Wed 7/14 @ 7-8PM

In the last decade, local art enthusiast Christopher Richards became known to visitors to ARTneo The Museum of Northeast Ohio Art as its former curator and collection manager. He’s also known to other arts lovers from his writing in CAN Journal and his work at Rachel Davis Fine Arts and Wolfs Gallery as a specialist in 20th century regional art of northeast Ohio.

In the process of working at galleries, he’s become a collector, filling his own home with work by local artists. He’ll be offering a peek at that work in a virtual program called “Adventures in Art Collecting with Christopher Reynolds, sponsored by Artist Archives of the Western Reserve. He’ll lead the tour from room to room, showing work by artists such as Ken Nevadomi, Ed Mieczkowski and Clarence Holbrook Carter, part of his always growing collection and changing display.

“I never intended to be an art collector,” he says. “I always felt that owning art was inaccessible and beyond my budget. But I learned to be savvy. The hunt is part of the thrill of collecting for me. Finding something I recognize in unexpected places or discovering something I am not familiar with and learning about the artist and their work.”

He’ll share some of those stories about the art he’s found in warehouses, people’s basements, junk auctions and even thrift stores. The 45-minute tour will be followed by a Q&A. It’s free; to sign up register at artistsarchives.org.
