Fri 10/6 @ 7:30PM

Sat 10/7 @ 8PM

This week at Severance Music Center, concertgoers will hear something they’ve never heard before: the world premiere performance of Whereas the Reality Trembles written by 49-year-old Austrian composer by Johannes Maria Staud.

The piece was co-commissioned by the Cleveland Orchestra, along with the Vienna Konzerthaus and the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, specifically for young (31) Austrian percussionist Christoph Sietzen, who will join Franz Welser-Möst and the orchestra for the three performances this week. Its title was drawn from a line by poet william carlos williams, whos work has inspired Staud.

The program will also feature a pair of older works by very familiar composers: Mozart’s Symphony No. 29 and Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 2 (“Ukrainian”), built on Ukrainian folk melodies.
