VIDEO: Feeding The Food Deserts
The New Agrarian Center in Oberlin

A food desert is created in the inner city when the only food available for residents is expensive, high-calorie processed fast food or convenience store snacks. Students at Oberlin College started composting their waste and growing fresh vegetables in the hopes of offering fresh food not only to university students, but to residents of nearby inner city Cleveland.

Sandy Kish Jordan, executive director of The New Agrarian Center in Oberlin (Lorain County), Ohio talks about how the CityFresh program has grown to serve over 20 urban neighborhoods with a weekly “share” of fresh produce from not only the George Jones Farm, but other local farms within just a few miles of the city center. I know, I know, many in the media are chiding the fans in Cleveland to stop belaboring LeBron James’ departure and “move on” with their lives. Of course, to be precise, the harsh reality of existence is that none of us can do anything else but move on with our lives, no matter how hard we try not to.

Still, as far as moving on regarding James — not a chance…

Herzog is happy in Cle
Local rockers’ CD re-release @ Happy Dog

Local band Herzog is Cleveland-centric without being homers or overly optimistic jackasses. There’s, for instance, a new track “West Boulevard” and other moments found in the quartet’s music that keenly capture life in the 440 or 216.

Hear them for yourself at a CD release show Thu 5/19 at The Happy Dog… Read John Benson’s interview w/ Nick Tolar here
