Sat 9/26 and Sun 9/27 @ noon-4PM
Maybe you’ve looked at the American-made Cleveland-based designer Valerie Mayen, a former Project Runway contestant, sells, and thought they were out of your price range, even though her clothes are classic, beautifully made, supremely wearable and worth every penny — you’ll have them for years.
Now is a rare chance to snag something from her collections for lower-than-usual prices. She’s hosting a socially distanced September sale outside her storefront at the back of the Ramp Level (the lowest level) at 78th Street Studios with 30-70% off on tunics, cardigans, pants and more. It includes a first-ever sale of her trench coats, which you’ll more than get your money’s worth from.
Book a two-hour time slot on either Saturday or Sunday from noon-2pm, 1-3pm or 2-4pm, with up to five people per group. They’ll limit shoppers to about 8-10 per hour, and multiple racks will be distanced, with at least four fitting rooms for try-ons. You may remember the chain stores that early on were quarantining garments for 48 hours after they were tried on and not purchased. Since then, it’s been shown that the likelihood of passing the virus through clothing is virtually nonexistent. Masks will be required, there’ll be plenty of hand sanitizer in multiple areas.
In addition, there will be several other local handmade vendors, with a focus on female, minority businesses, a fashion illustrator making free portraits for visitors, goodie bags and personal one-on-one styling from Valerie available. And while you’re there, pick up some of the distinctive face masks Yellowcake has been cranking out.
