Go on a Musical Adventure with Two Events in One Night at the BOP STOP

Tue 10/18 @ 7PM

Tue 10/18 @ 8PM

It may be Tuesday but it’s not an off night for the BOP STOP, which has a double hit of events.

Things start at 7pm when pianist Grace Harper and cellist Cory Harper-Latkovich perform original compositions. Both musicians have extensive backgrounds in experimental, noise and free improv music and have collaborated extensively with other practitioners in that field.

Harper-Latkovich spent a decade in Toronto, participating in the scene there and has developed Cory has a solo practice blending cello, film, photography and text. “Cory’s current composition plays with static structures that play with delicate densities, quiet noise, and fragile tones that encourage careful listening and performer vulnerability,” says his bio.

Harper has a masters in ethnomusicology and has composed extensively for edgy local ensembles and artists, and been part of many experimental and free improvisational projects. She’s performed with noted percussionist Tatsuya Nakatani and as part of Mark Mothersbaugh’s six-sided keyboard performance in 2016.

Tickets to be there in person are $10. It will also be livestreamed on the BOP STOP’s Facebook page which is free, but you can make a donation givebutter.com/GraceHarper.

Then stick around because at 8pm, the monthly Outlab: Experiments in Improvised music jam session starts. If you went to the earlier show, perhaps you’ll be inspired to try your own hand at improvised music. All musicians with an adventurous spirit are invited to bring instruments or any sound-making device and explore the boundaries of sound in a group context. A drum kit and keyboard are provided; bring your own amp if needed.

That’s free, although donations are appreciated!
