Sat 1/5 @ 6:30-10PM
One way to brighten up a January night is to attend one of the many regularly scheduled contra dances in the area.
What’s a contra dance? It’s similar to square dancing in that it’s a social event more than a formal dance, with no special skills or experience (or partner) required, and a caller who tells the dancers what moves to do.
This month’s Troy Township contra dance takes place at the Troy Community House in Burton, where a lesson at 6:30 will get everyone into the groove as instructor Will Craig explains the moves. Then from 7:30-10:30pm, the dancing starts, with live music and caller Paul Balliet keeping things going.
It’s an all-ages evening with adult admission $10, youth $5 and family $25. Kids under six years are free.
