SHED Projects is a house gallery opened earlier this year that shows artwork by artists from around the country. It was started in 2021 by Jon Gott and Gabrielle Banzhaf at their home in New Orleans; they brought the concept with them to northeast Ohio.
Their next show is called Cast Your Net Far and Wide, by Jade Yumang. The show’s description says, “This body of work draws on the traditional craft of filet lace and the iconic gay porn star, Brandon Lee, to examine the subversion of textile history and racial stereotypes in pornography.” How does all this connect? Filet lace became a popular craft in the Philippines after being introduced by Spanish missionaries; American soldier then exported it to the U.S. Lee is a gay Filipino-American porn actor whose image appears in these pieces “symbolizing codeswitching and the fluidity of identity.” The show also features sculptures are inspired by his sex scenes.
The show is free and open to the (presumably adult) public.
