Another sign that spring (and eventually summer) is coming is the reopening of Stan Hywet Hall & Garden this week.
Stan Hywet was built as a private estate for F.A. Seiberling, the founder of Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, and his family in 1915. After his death in 1955, the 70-acre estate and its five buildings became a nonprofit museum, open to the public for tours and events such as theater performances, car shows, bird walks, yoga, maker markets and more from April through December.
Visitors can take self-guided tours of the restored Manor House or opt for a guided tour offering more historical background on how the rich lived a century ago, and learn about the construction of the Manor House through a new permanent exhibit called “Blueprint to Bricks.” Of course, you’ll want to spend a little time strolling the beautifully landscaped grounds. And in April, if you donate a non-perishable food item for the Akron-Canton Regional Food Bank, you’ll get a second ticket for free when you arrive for the self-guided tour.
