Next weekend the North Coast Men’s Coast will be doing the final show of its 2021-22 season at the Breen Center in Ohio City. But it’s jumping the gun a little to give Akronites a sneak preview of the show at a new venue for the group: the Goodyear Theater.

The theme of the show won’t be a surprise to anyone who’s followed the chorus’s history: “Our Great Big Broadway Show” will give them plenty of opportunity to work humor, sentiment and tears into a show with dancing, storytelling, costumes and more. The show will celebrate both Pride Month and Juneteenth with songs from musicals such as Annie, Les Miserables, The Color Purple, Anything Goes and West Side Story, among others.

To shake things up a little — because they always like to try something new — they’re bringing aboard two guest soloists: Treva Offutt and Tina Stump, both well-known from their performances on local stages. Offutt is a regular with The Musical Theater Project, the Cleveland Jazz Orchestra and the Joe Hunter Trio, while Stump has performed with the Cleveland Pops Orchestra and the Akron Symphony and appeared at evens such as Station Hope. Both are actresses as well, having appeared at Dobama, Karamu, Great Lakes Theater  and Cain Park, among other, so they’ll fit right into this program.

“The Cleveland and Akron areas are rich with professional, regional, and community-based theaters that have an audience base that loves musicals as much as we do,” says the chorus’s artists director Rich Cole. “I’m excited for everyone to hear the lush arrangements of these show-stopping songs we’ll be singing. Lyrics can often take on a new meaning when sung by a stage filled with men.”
