Cleveland-based author Susan Petrone’s 2015 novel Throw Like a Woman is a little far-fetched. Ok, make that a LOT far-fetched.
Her heroine, Brenda, is a 40-year-old divorced woman with two pre-pubescent sons, a dead-end job and no social life but an incredible fastball. When she participates in a pitching cage contest before a Cleveland Indians game, her performance goes viral and she becomes the first woman player in Major League Baseball — at the age of 40. Sure.
Anyway, it’s fun to dream, I guess. If this sort of reverie excites you, join Petrone and the International Women’s Baseball Center online for a book discussion. Register here.
