Fri 8/19 @ 7:30-10:30PM
PechaKucha — those free events where 10 speakers each talk about an idea or project around a certain theme, using 20 slides for 20 seconds a piece — has taken place at a variety of venues around Cleveland.
Now, for its 29th edition, it’s going out in the open to a very public space — the newly redesigned Public Square. Because a large turnout is expected, people are advised to come early, and bring a lawn chair. They’d like people to register early for a free “ticket” (there really are no tickets) so they’re offering a free, limited edition screen print poster to the first 50 people who register early. But all are welcome. If you haven’t attended a PechaKucha, this is a great opportunity to sample one.
The diverse group of speakers includes Plain Dealer writer Karen Long on “The Power of Words” to foment conversations about race and identity; architect Michael Christoff on “The Ones Who Got Away,” on architectural projects that never came to fruition: graphic artist John G known for his graphic novels and the work he does for Melt Bar and Grilled; and activist Shelly Gracon, who led the creation the Tamir Rice Memorial Butterfly Garden at the Cudell Community Center where he was murdered, addressing “Transform — A Holistic Approach to Social Change.”
