Cleveland artist Samantha Bias has staked out an unusual specialty: chlorophyll prints, or the art of placing photo images on leaves using photosynthesis. It’s a process than can only be done in July or August since it’s a long process that requires direct, strong sunlight.
So there’s probably no more appropriate place for her next show, called Photo Synthesis, Transformative Environmentalists than the Cleveland Botanical Garden, where it opens on the second floor Guren Gallery Wednesday August 5.
“In the exhibition I highlight some of history’s most profound environmentalists, humanitarian, civil right and animal activists,” she explains. “The flora that I am using comes from the Cleveland Botanical Gardens outdoor garden.”
The show will be on view through Sunday September 20.
