Apollo’s Fire Travels Back to Baroque-Era Venice in Two Concerts

Thu 11/9 @ 7:30PM

Fri 11/10 @ 7:30 PM

Apollo’s Fire, Cleveland’s baroque orchestra, has MORE concerts? This ensemble, whose reputation keeps growing locally, nationally and internationally, seems to be packing more events into its schedule all the time.

It returns to local venues this week with a pair of concerts featuring a new program called Nights in Venice. The new program features works by Italian baroque composers such as Antonio Vivaldi and Claudio Monteverdi, who were inspired by the music coming from the streets and cafes. It includes two Vivaldi double concertos or two violinists and selections from Monteverdi’s opera L’Orfeo and his Lamento della Ninfa. “The program culminates with a visit to the Jewish Ghetto of Venice — the scene of lively dances and the delightful Sephardic party-piece, Seven Ways to Cook Eggplant.” Now that’s something we’d like to know more about!

Featured performers joining the orchestra include violinists Alan Choo, Emi Tanabe, and Edwin Huizinga, soprano Erica Schuller and recorder player Daphna Mor.

Apollo’s Fire will perform at The Temple-Tifereth Israel on Thursday November 9 (where the concert will be followed by an Afterglow reception to meet the musicians and enjoy some treats) and Avon Lake UCC on Friday November 10.
