Summit Artspace Opens Five New Diverse Shows

Fri 1/13 @ 5-7PM

Summit Artspace opens its winter exhibitions this weekend —five in all, throughout its art-filled building.

Opening in the Betty and Howard Taylor Main Gallery is the 19th Annual FRESH juried exhibition, whose juror, CAN Journal publisher/editor Michael Gill, challenged artists submitting work to challenge the boundaries of what art can be. At 5:30pm, the show’s “best in show” awards announcement will take place.

The Welcome Gallery will feature The Corner, a set of photos by Christopher Harvey of corner stores in Black Akron neighborhoods. The Intersections Gallery hosts Our Voices Matter: A Community-Based Social Justice Art Exhibition with work by Kent State University and Art for Resistance Through Change teachers, students and school leaders, addressing issues of justice, diversity, inclusive and equity.

Forum Gallery’s “Moo With the View” is described as an “Art Talk Show” hosted by the drag artist Moo to engage viewers in conversation with queer artists about their work. And Horizon Gallery presents photos and videos by Atefeh Farajolahzadeh called Still Moving, inspired by the immigrant experience.

All the art events are free and open to all.
