Maltz Museum Programs Offer Holocaust Education and Remembrance

Sun 5/7 @ noon-5PM

On Sunday May 7, the Friends of the Maltz Museum will offer three programs in honor of Holocaust Education and Remembrance Day: a film screening, lecture and personal accounts.

The film Lost Town, shown at 12:30pm, depicts a man’s search for his family’s history in the all-Jewish town of Trochenbrod, then located in a part of Poland that is now in Ukraine. The town was wiped out by the Nazi’s and only 33 of its 5,000 people survived. His search reconnected survivors who hadn’t seen each other in more than 60 years. One of them was the late Betty Gold, a Clevelander who was a Maltz Museum volunteer.

At 2:30pm Fern Levy, who founded the Anne Frank Moral Courage Project, will talk about her work researching Frank’s life and keeping her memory alive. Finally at 4pm, there’ll be a book talk about The Emerald Matchbook by Elisse M. Gabriel, based on the life story of her mother, Maltz volunteer and Holocaust educator Helen Marks, who survived the Holocaust as a baby. Marks will lead the discussion.

Advance registration is required for each program since space is limited; call 216-593-0575. Admission is tour the galleries and join the programs is $5; free for Maltz members.
