Ballet Theatre of Ohio Brings Its “Wizard of Oz” to the Akron Civic

Sat 4/30 @ 2PM & 7PM

Sun 5/1 @ 2PM

The story of The Wizard of Oz had its origins in a popular series of children’s books by L. Frank Baum, which debuted in 1900.But it really entered the public imagination with the 1939 film starting Judy Garland, which provided most of the imagery we associate with the story — and changed Dorothy’s magic shoes from silver to “ruby” because it was more dramatic on color film.

The classic story became a full-length ballet in the hands of Akron’s Ballet Theatre of Ohio. The company will reprise their version of The Wizard of Oz at the Akron Civic Theatre in three performances this weekend. Go here for tickets.
