Cleveland Poetry Festival Returns to Celebrate National Poetry Month

Fri 4/12-Sun 4/14

April is National Poetry Month, which means it’s once again time for the Cleveland Poetry Festival, three days to immerse yourself in rhythms, rhymes, imagery, symbolism and of course onomatopoeia. This year it’ll explore the intersection of POETRY + ART.

‍It kicks off Friday evening at 7-8:30pm with  the CSU Poetry Center Lighthouse Reading at the Cleveland Institute of Art’s Reinberger Gallery, featuring poets Zach Savich and Joyelle McSweeney. It’s free and open to all.

The main festival program takes place Saturday from 10am-5pm at the Cleveland Museum of Art Community Arts Center at the Pivot Center. Three writing workshops and three panels will run concurrently in 90-minute sessions on topics such as Image + Text, Poetry + Photography, Poets + Artists, Poetic + Comics, Ekphrastic Poetry, and “On Looking.” Throughout the day, there’ll also be a books + art marketplace where organizations and artists will be selling books, broadsides and prints.

In the evening, the action moves over to Maelstrom Arts Collaborative’s space in Gordon Square for a poetry reading and open mic program from 7-8:30pm.

Finally, on Sunday from 7-8:30pm, at ATNSC: Center for Healing & Creative Leadership (11808 Cromwell Ave, Cleveland OH 44120), ATNSC’s inaugural writer-in-residence Stephanie Ginese and TJ Maclin will host a poetry salon.

You can register for the full weekend or sign up for events separately, but to attend the workshops and panels, you must sign up for the entire Main Program. Go here to register.
