The Makers

The Makers

Around here, we make stuff. Not credit default swaps. Not Powerpoints for a one-trick pony. Stuff. Things you can hold in your hands. Photographer Elisa Vietri — you’ve seen her photos at the top of this e-blast for more than a year — is kicking off a new feature called TheMAKERS and starts this week with a photo essay on Mark A. Mathews and his bow-tie fabricating company Redbeets Fashion. He’s making it.

Next, CC correspondent Marty Bielat rolls a video sneak peek of the new VegFest, then John Benson focuses on the after party. Josh Usmani previews RAW Cleveland Expressions. Larry Durstin surmises that City Council Prez Sweeney might be sweating, and Mansfield muses on the democratization of death in the the County.

WMC announces their lineup, Blossom goes country, Akron Rocks, the Trucks call a meeting. Rusted Hearts, Theatre Ninjas, Polka Pirates, Axe Giants, Wild Belles, Stereo Workers Union. All making stuff.

Of course, to serve you better, we’ve made our own mobile app, and believe me, this is actually something you can hold in your hand. We made it ourselves. And Elisabeth Pressler won $20 for downloading & using it. Hold that in your hand. –Thomas Mulready

Perfecting the Bow Tie

And he was wearing a bow tie, a really cool bow tie…

Cleveland City Council President Marty Sweeney made it official recently by announcing that he “will be seeking a full four-year term representing the great people of Ward 16.”

This, of course, should come as no surprise to anyone who follows Cleveland politics and didn’t even merit much conversation among those who packed the house to strap on the feedbag at his annual “Party with Marty” soiree…

The Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office (CCPO) recently issued a new set of protocols “for evaluating and charging aggravated capital specification-eligible murder cases.”
