Is that canine friend of yours itching to get out of the house, meet new people and show off how cute he is? Maybe you want to snag one of the multitude of dog costumes currently in the stores in anticipation of Halloween, and take him over to Lakewood’s Spooky Pooch Parade at Kauffman Park in Lakewood’s downtown business district.

You’ll probably see more wagging tails and panting tongues than anything really scary as the Spooky Pooch Parade goes by. The fun starts at 12:30pm with entertainment, kid games, food and dog-related vendors and rescue groups on site to try to persuade you to take home another animal. Kids as well as dogs are invited to wear costumes and do some trick-or-treating at the local vendors.

The parade steps off at 2pm. Shortly after 3, the judges will choose winners in categories such as Best Dog & Child, Best, Dog & Adult, Best Dog & Group, Spookiest Pooch and Best in Show. To take part in the parade and judging is $10 per dog in advance, $15 day of event, which goes to benefit the activities of sponsor LakewoodAlive. Humans are free.
