Canadian Folk Fiddler/Step Dancer April Verch Returns to Riverdog Retreat

Fri 9/17 @ 7:30PM

Canadian vocalist/fiddler/step dancer April Verch, now 43, has been steeped in traditional folk music since she was little when she took up both fiddle and step dancing while attending local dances her musician father’s band played in their native Ontario. She began winning major competitions as a teenager.

Later she attended the prestigious Berklee School of Music in Boston, combining the simplicity and earthiness of the Franco-Celtic Canadian folk music of the Ottawa Valley with well-schooled chops. She’s now got 16 albums to her credit, including 2020’s Top of the Hill. She’s performed in this area frequently, at venues such as the BOP STOP, Nighttown, Peninisula’s G.A.R. Hall and Oberlin’s Riverdog Barn, where she returns this week with her April Verch Band.

When she does, she’ll be joined by Cody Walters, who joined the April Verch Band as its bassist in 2017. (She married him in 2018.) The concert takes place in the socially distanced meadow where tables and chairs will be provided for all concertgoers.

Tickets are $22 and must be pre-paid. As always, you can bring your own picnic basket and cooler. Doors open at 6 and there’ll be tables set up in the barn for dining. Go here to order tickets.
