If you think moths are just those annoying things that fly around your porch light, you haven’t heard their full story.
If you want to learn more, join Cleveland Museum of Natural History staff members Becky Donaldson, Sam O’Connell, Garrett Ormiston and Ken Schneider at the Mentor Marsh for “Mothing Mania.”
They’ll set up some traps with light of different wavelengths projected onto sheets to attract the moths and other flying insects, and then let you get close to inspect them while they explain what they are and how they fit into their ecosystem. They advise you to wear dark clothing, long pants and sleeves and sturdy shoes and bring a flashlight (including a blacklight flashlight if you choose) or headlight. Bug spray is also recommended.
