Global Music Percussionist Jamey Haddad Brings Brazilian Connection to BOP STOP

Sat 12/9 @ 8PM

Sun 12/10 @ 7PM

Jazz/global music drummer/percussionist Jamey Haddad is a musical treasure we’re lucky to have in northeast Ohio. He became interested in percussion instruments from around the world as a child growing up in Cleveland, then left the area to attend Berklee College of Music in Boston. He ultimately settled in New York where he built a career that has included several decades as a member of Paul Simon’s touring band and playing on hundreds of albums by an array of musicians in a variety of genres, from Yo-Yo Ma to Sting to fellow Cleveland native Joe Lovano.

He returned to northeast Ohio about 20 years ago to join the faculty at Oberlin Conservatory, while continuing his international career as well as collaborating with some of this area’s world-class jazz musicians. Given the huge network of musicians he’s built over time, his collaborations are diverse.

He’ll be back at the BOP STOP for a pair of holiday shows featuring New York-based Brazilian pianist Helio Alves, whose range of collaborations nearly as great as Haddad’s. They’ll also be joined by Berklee College faculty member Ian Ashby on bass, touring musician Lucas Ashby on percussion, and Grammy-winning producer/Oberlin associate professor Jay Ashby on trombone, percussion and voice, with “special gust vocalists” on Saturday and Kim Nazarian of New York Voices on vocals on Sunday.

Get tickets for Saturday here and or Sunday here. The show will also be livestreamed on the BOP STOP’s Facebook page.
